**Lesson Plan: Parts of the GSM Phone**
**Grade Level:** Primary 2 (Second Grade)
**Subject:** Information Communication Technology (ICT)
**Topic:** Parts of the GSM Phone
**Duration:** 45 minutes
**Objectives:**
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Identify and name the basic parts of a GSM phone.
2. Describe the function of each part of the phone.
3. Demonstrate how to handle a phone safely.
---
### Materials Needed:
- A real, non-functional GSM phone (for demonstration)
- Pictures of a GSM phone showing different parts
- Flashcards with names and pictures of phone parts
- Chart paper and markers
- A computer with a projector or an interactive whiteboard (optional)
- Coloring sheets of a phone diagram (for individual student activity)
### Lesson Steps:
#### 1. Introduction (5 minutes)
- Greet the students warmly and ask them if they know what a GSM phone is.
- Explain that GSM stands for Global System for Mobile communication, which is a standard used by mobile phones to communicate with each other.
- Show them a real GSM phone and a large picture of a phone with its parts labeled.
#### 2. Presentation (15 minutes)
- **Show and Tell:** Use the real phone and the picture to introduce the main parts of a GSM phone. Discuss and show each part as you name them:
1. **Screen/Display:** Where we see everything.
2. **Battery:** Powers the phone.
3. **SIM Card Slot:** Stores the subscriber information.
4. **Buttons/Keypad:** Used to dial numbers or type messages.
5. **Microphone and Speaker:** Used for voice communication.
6. **Charging port:** Where the phone is plugged in to charge.
- **Functions and Descriptions:** Briefly explain the function of each part. For instance:
- "The screen/display shows us pictures, numbers, and letters."
- "The battery helps the phone to turn on and work."
#### 3. Interactive Activity (10 minutes)
- **Group Activity:** Split the class into small groups and give each group a set of flashcards that have phone parts and their names.
- Ask the groups to match the pictures to the correct names.
- Walk around the classroom to assist the groups and ensure they are on the right track.
#### 4. Hands-On Activity (10 minutes)
- **Individual Task:** Distribute coloring sheets with a diagram of a GSM phone showing its parts.
- Ask students to color the different parts of the phone and label them.
- Provide them with colored pencils or crayons.
#### 5. Conclusion and Review (5 minutes)
- **Class Discussion:** Recap the parts of the GSM phone by reviewing the chart paper, asking the students to name each part and describe its function.
- **Safe Handling Tips:** Briefly discuss how to handle a phone carefully:
- Don't drop the phone.
- Keep the phone away from water.
- Use the phone under the supervision of an adult.
- **Q&A:** Allow students to ask questions if they have any.
#### 6. Closing (3 minutes)
- Congratulate the students on their participation and remind them of the importance of handling technology responsibly.
- Announce the next topic or give a short teaser about the next ICT lesson to build interest.
### Assessment:
- Evaluate students' understanding through their participation in the interactive activity.
- Check the coloring sheets for accurate naming and coloring of GSM phone parts.
- Observe students’ ability to describe and identify phone parts during the review session.
### Additional Notes:
- Adjust the complexity of the explanations based on the students’ comprehension levels.
- Use simple and relatable language appropriate for Primary 2 students.
- Incorporate multimedia aids, if available, for visual and auditory learners.
